SAR Sunday Training

Yesterday, was a SAR training exercise day out in the field. We had to plot a bearing on a map and follow that bearing to a ribbon.'

Fifth Night of GSAR Training

We finished up our map work. I think that I did well on my quiz. Next, week we will be attending the annual general meeting.

SAR field traing with map and compass

All us new members got to go out in to the bush to practice what we have learned in class about map and compass. I learned that my pace is 107 steps to every 100m roughly. We learned how to go a certain distance on a bearing.

Fourth night of GSAR training

This is the last night of map work until the quiz. I am finally starting to understand how to read a map and take barrings, plot where I am, and distance to where I am going. On Sunday, we are going to do some training out side. We will be learning about pacing, barrings, how to follow a heading, and triangulation. I feel confident that I will pass the quiz.

Trip to the Rockies

This is the start of my planning on going to the Rockies in July. I am going to ask a few of my Friends in Search and Rescue if they want to go. I hope to get a better backpack for the trip.

SAR trip to Mount Washington

The members that are taking the GSAR course with a few instructors went up to Mount Washington to do some avalanche training.  We learned how to use avalanche beckons and got to try to find some that were buried in the snow by the instructors. When the beacons got us with in two meters we had to learn how to do a pole poke to try and find the person. I really enjoyed being on the mountain on such a beautiful day. It was great fun to snowshoe to were we were going. We also learned how to set snow anchors in the snow for rappelling over cliffs. It was my fist time rappelling down a cliff outside it was very cool. Finally we got to learn how to read the different types of snow layers by digging a hole and then looking at the different layers that had formed over the last few months. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a camera with me so sadly there are no pics. It would have been a perfect day for it to.

Third Night of GSAR Training

This was the first quiz that we had to do so far. After the quiz we started to learn how to read  a map. I learned two ways to plot were I am on a map down to 100m.
